Sound and Color - Behind the Scenes and inside the tune.

Wait Brittany Howard built a spaceship set in her basement? That's awesome.

Unless you've been sleeping under a rock for the last couple years you've probably already heard the fantastics music of Alabama Shakes.

Their new album Sound and Color is up for all kinds of awards and deservedly so.

Until recently the namesake tune on the album I've heard only as an abstract soundscape painting. It's vibe track and funky syncopated percussion track  was enough on it's own without any kind of back story. But lo-and-behold when you listen a little closer and you hear what lead singer Brittany Howard had in mind when she wrote it, it brings to life and incredible Arthur C Clarke / Kubrick inspired sci-fi visual landscape.

This is just exactly the kind of detail, nuance and depth we appreciate and want to celebrate here. What an amazing risk to take on their first video. The band is known for a retro vintage old school soul vibe, but here they are laying it all out there in a sci-fi video and they pull it off with incredible style and ease.

Check out the back story to the tune in the video below, and then take in the splendor of the official video. Fantastic work.

Below is the official full length video.
